Climbing with the aid of the Tatra staff — a strong hatchet-
headed stick, with which we are each provided, and which
every one uses on this northern side of
the mountains — we catch hold of roots and
branches of trees, and ascend the precipitous
mountain that would otherwise have
been impossible to climb.
